Book excerpt: Sahira’s story is a tale of two friends, Sahira and Christie, who live next door to each other and became as close as sisters. Both are only children. Christie is part of a single-parent family, with her dad as her only parent. Sahira is the child of immigrants. The differences between the two seem unimportant at first, but as the girls reach their late teens, there are stark reminders of the cultural differences between the two families. Sahira’s father expects—and demands—instant obedience. Christie’s father is a more typical, laid-back North American dad. Christie is shocked when Sahira announces that her father has arranged a marriage for her to a man she has never met, a situation Christie denounces as impossible and plots to help Sahira escape her father’s domination. Can her plan succeed? The reader will have to wait until the last page to find out.

Download or read book Wandering and Wondering written by Randall Worley and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2017-10-10 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mark Twain once said, “The two greatest days in your life are the day you were born, and the day you find out why.” But what happens when you know the why but can't figure out how to make it happen? It is this journey between the realization of your purpose and its actualization that Randall Worley calls process. Purpose, which answers why, can be realized in moment. However, process, which must answer how, is not actualized as quickly. In other words, “becoming an overnight success takes years.” Purpose has been a hot topic for several years, capturing the attention of those adrift in a culture of apathy and aimlessness. It is certainly a far more palatable subject in today’s culture of self-improvement than is process, because it seems to offer a free carpet ride from here to there. Your destiny, however, is not downloadable. The dream of your future is free, but the journey will demand a price. Yet it is in the sacrifice and effort of process that God will turn your purpose into a world-changing reality.

Book excerpt: The brilliant new novel from the author of The Last Summer of the Water Strider ‘A sharp and very funny portrait of a brash era which is also a surprisingly tender take on flawed masculinity.’ Sarah Hughes, i paper ‘What a terrific novel - wickedly sharp, wildly entertaining - I was gripped from start to finish. With its twisty plots and interwoven characters it paints a vivid portrait of a crucial decade. It's laugh-out-loud funny, too. And with property porn thrown in, what's not to like’ Deborah Moggach Millennium Eve and six people gather on a London rooftop. Recently married, Frankie Blue watches with his wife, Veronica, as the sky above the Thames explodes into a kaleidoscope of light. His childhood companion, Colin, ineptly flirts with Roxy, an unlikely first date, while another old friend, Nodge, newly ‘out’, hides his insecurities from his waspish boyfriend. New Labour are at their zenith. The economy booms, awash with cheap credit. The arrival of the smartphone heralds the sudden and vast expansion of social media. Mass immigration from Eastern Europe leave many unsettled while religious extremism threatens violent conflict. An estate agent in a property boom, Frankie is focused simply on getting rich. But can he survive the coming crash? And what will become of his friends - and his marriage - as they are scoured by the winds of change? When We Were Rich finds the characters introduced in Tim Lott's award-winning 1999 debut, White City Blue, struggling to make sense of a new era. Sad, shocking and often hilarious, it is an acutely observed novel of all our lives, set during what was for some a golden time - and for others a nightmare, from which we are yet to wake up. ‘Wickedly funny and deeply humane. I loved this book’ Sadie Jones 'Tim Lott revisits the years between millennium fever and the financial crisis, and brings this already long-lost era back to life in a novel every bit as evocative and compelling as we would expect from this prodigiously gifted author’ Jonathan Coe Praise for The Last Summer of the Water Strider: 'I was very moved by The Last Summer of the Water Strider, which is both exquisitely specific to time and place and universal in its examination of humanity, grief and the bizarre prisons that people build for themselves - and one another. Funny, fascinating, mysterious and provocative' Sadie Jones, author of The Outcast 'Great storytelling and superb characterisation. Very few writers can evoke quintessential Englishness in its myriad forms like Tim Lott. I loved it' Irvine Welsh 'Lott is excellent when it comes to the psychology of a grieving adolescent' Observer

Download or read book Valleys and Victories written by Lorraine Williams-Lewis and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-07-26 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reason why I wrote this book is to assist women of all culture and races with some form of knowledge of how to cope in the valleys of life. I hope women will learn from my mistakes and do it better. I am not a saint or self-righteous. My hope is that they will get to know Christ in an intimate way, because if women have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, their lives will become better. They will have a better survival rate than someone who is on their own and has no one. The bad things that people do to you, God turns it around in your favor. God has a purpose for all our lives. He is always working behind the scenes. When people come against you, God allowed it because it is all in his plan to work the kinks out of you and to take the bad parts of you to make you better. Life sometimes is not fair, but it is serving his plan to create you to be better, stronger, wiser, self-assured, and direct you into his purpose for your life. God intended it for good when he use the Judas of your life. It was hurtful to me when people ostracized me, lied on me, betrayed me, etc. It made me stronger, wiser, nonjudgmental, humbled me and gave me empathy for others. Everything serves a purpose in your life. Stay strong, keep the faith, trust God, stay prayerful, decree and declare great things for your life. Believe and see those great things, for your life is happening even if it is not physically in existence (Hebrews 11:1). Never give up, for if you keep on moving and doing the right things, you will someday succeed and be victorious over your obstacles in your life. God is giving you strength by allowing adversities to come into your life. Your adversities come, not to destroy you, but to push you further into God's great plan for your life. This is my life lesson learned, and Christ was guiding me the whole time. "Yea I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. I will fear no evil: For thou are with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me" (Psalm 23:4).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One night. That’s all it takes to turn my life upside down. It's not like I had the most stable childhood to begin. Most of it was spent on the run from the villains in my mom's head. It isn't until after she's murdered right in front of me that I realize maybe they weren't in her head after all. After her death I go to stay with an uncle I didn't know existed to try to make sense of my life and find some answers about who I really am. As I search for the truth a guy named Peter shows up and makes it his mission to constantly get in my personal space. He's gorgeous, flirty and completely infuriating. And possibly not actually human or from this world. The things he tells me sound insane and I don't think I can trust him. It doesn't matter that each heated touch draws me deeper into his web. Things like magic, pirates and Peter Pan just aren't real. Are they?
