Download or read book Beyond The Door Volume 1 written by Serena B. Miller and published by L. J. Emory Publishing. This book was released on 2018-10-31 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mystified archeologist, an Amish ghost, and avenging angels are just a few of the stories found in Beyond the Door, Volume 1, a twelve-story supernatural anthology. When multi-published authors get together for a play date, and are presented with a writing challenge they can’t resist, the results are not only surprising, they sometimes stretch the limits of their storytelling abilities. In the pages of Beyond the Door, the demons at play will not be what you expect. Where else can you find a robotic barista, a vengeful little girl, and a murderous goddess who wants to come out and play? What else may be lurking Beyond the Door? Interview with the Writers Q: What possessed four otherwise normal writers to write such dark and horrifying stories? A.B. Alvarez: It was the only way I could get them to unlock the basement door so I could get something to eat. Seriously. Serena B. Miller: Wait a minute. You got out? Jesse R. Lyle: The real answer is, A.B. didn’t see the sign that said “Push To Open”. Poor guy would have starved to death pulling on that door if we hadn’t opened it for him… we had to come up with some sort of story to help save his dignity. Derek E. Miller: I was the last to say “Not It” when it came to there being a responsible adult watching these hooligans so I was stuck with them all weekend. I went to dark places in my mind to escape the reality I was stuck in so figured I might as well put the dark places on paper. Q: Serena B. Miller, what was it like writing a dark Amish story? A: It was freeing, actually. I love and admire my Amish friends, but there is a dark side to the Amish that romance writers are expected to ignore. It is inevitable that a culture as strict as theirs can take a toll on the psyche. Sometimes that toll presents itself in extreme depression. Q: Derek E. Miller, do you always wear a bulletproof vest when you write? A: True story. Grandpa always did the dishes for grandma. He would say, “Proven scientific fact. No man has been shot by his wife while doing dishes.” Well seeing how I’m not helping do dishes, laundry, or mowing the lawn when writing, I can’t be too careful. Q: Jesse R. Lyle, are the tattoos all over your body the inspiration for your story Ancient Runes? A: Yes and No. The inspiration comes from knowing that everyone has a story whether big or small. And some of those stories are just like tattoos, some are hilarious or regretful, some are meaningful or spiritual, and yet some, are private reminders of a struggle or addiction one is trying to overcome. I guess the take-away is, be willing to listen, and pay attention to the people around you. Q: A.B. Alvarez, what is it with you and having to chop off body parts in your stories? A: There was no hacking of body parts in the Kidnapping Anna Trilogy though there was a lot of computer hacking. I think I had pent up body-hacking impulses that came out in the abandoned farmhouse where we did our writing. It is also true that the farmhouse was not abandoned, not filled with cobwebs, and not dark and foreboding thereby keeping me up every night wondering if I was going to make it out alive. Except that it was.

Download or read book Beyond the Locked Door written by Luke Allan and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What this book is about: Luke Allan is a born story-teller, and in this novel he describes a locked room, of which the window considered as a means of escape offered little chance to a fugitive. Yet in this room murder was committed and in some manner the murderer contrived to escape. The occupants of the house were a curious collection of people. The ownerNa rich man who ran a club for ex-criminals; his beautiful but mysterious sister, a big bruiser named Storey and a cook who obviously knew more than she was willing to tell, are among the chief characters. The unravelling of the threads leading to the murder is cleverly and neatly carried out, and the surprise ending makes a fitting conclusion to a most readable and exciting novel.
Download or read book Behind the Door The Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp Story written by Mandy Wiener and published by Pan Macmillan. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In February 2013 the news of successful model Reeva Steenkamp's fatal shooting by her boyfriend and global sporting star Oscar Pistorius stunned the world. Over the ensuing months, as Pistorius appeared in court, applied for bail and was eventually put on trial, every detail that emerged was analysed, debated, justified and digested. The world was haunted by the events as they were repeated and discussed at length. Public perception vacillated from version to version and from hour to hour. Finally, Judge Masipa found him to be not guilty of premeditated murder - but guilty of culpable homicide. Written by Mandy Weiner and Barry Batemen, the go-to journalists on the case for the world's media, Behind the Door is a compelling narrative that meticulously unpacks the evidence that has been so heavily scrutinised on all sides. But more than that, this book seeks to go beyond the facts of the case in search of the wider context behind this shocking tragedy: the back story of the police investigation, the nature of the South African criminal justice system, the culture of violence in South Africa and the need of society to create flawed heroes who are destined to fail. Vivid and gripping, Behind the Door is the most authoritative and insightful account of what really happened behind closed doors that fateful Valentine's morning.

Download or read book Beyond Church Doors written by Sylvia Brown-Roberts and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-01-18 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forty-year-old Nikolis McQuaige—called NikkiMac—is a teacher in Trenton, New Jersey, and is smart, quick, and loyal to her friends. She’s also single and struggles to be a good Christian. She thinks of herself as a work in progress, and God has been helping her make improvements in various areas of her life—such as in her choice of men. But men aren’t the only thing on NikkiMac’s mind. There’s her best friend, Jacee, and a new friend, Anna Maria. There’s her friend Cletus, who’s trying hard to stay on the wagon and do right by the twins he finds out are his biological children. And then there’s Sister Chloe, a new member of the church, who is cool—almost downright rude—to NikkiMac for reasons NikkiMac can’t fathom. She even finds time to think of the new, eligible assistant preacher named Adam Greene. By turns humorous and poignant, Beyond Church Doors invites us into NikkiMac’s world of urban grittiness and sass, where being a Christian means asking forgiveness when her anger at another woman leads to near tragedy. It means not giving up on asking friends to church. It means being willing to don a bright orange lifeguard outfit and whistle to stand by the baptistery so that a churchgoer, terrified of drowning, can let herself be baptized. NikkiMac doesn’t practice Sunday-morning-only Christianity, but lives her faith in the community 24-7 with a refreshing candor. “Author Sylvia Brown-Roberts ... reunites us with her vivid characters as they seek to translate their faith into Godly behavior. ... An inspirational novel.” —Dr. Michael A. Brown, author of In Search of the Narrow Way

Her blossoming relationship with assistant minister Adam Greene brightens her days. For the first time in her life, she’s dating a man according to God’s boundaries. NikkiMac wonders if marriage is in their future or if some dark issues from the past or present conflicts will stand in their way? Can any relationship withstand her best friend Jacee’s need to compete for NikkiMac’s attention with a new friend or Sister Chloe’s attempt to destroy her reputation in the church? Or the threat from a dangerous character from her childhood who forces his way back into NikkiMac’s life? In Behind and Beyond Church Doors: Promises, NikkiMac’s gritty urban community and the local congregation hum with joy and obstacles, but through it all, she relies on God’s grace to love, care for, and forgive others.
