Book excerpt: "Potent. Soulful. Ensnares you right from the beginning and doesn’t let its grip go for a moment." - 5 star review Felicity Wilde was never looking for fame. It found her anyway. And, with it, a boatload of broken promises and painful goodbyes. Since she walked out of the spotlight — and away from Ryder Woods — she’s carved out a new life for herself. Quiet. Simple. Drama-free. Music-free. It’s everything she thought she wanted. So why does it feel so empty? She told herself she’d never go back. Not to music. Not to Los Angeles. Not to him. But when outside forces compel her to fulfill her contractual obligations, Felicity will once again find herself facing the life she thought she’d left behind for good… as well as the man who broke her heart into pieces… They say lightning never strikes twice… But what if your love is a perfect storm? FADED: Part Two is the second installment of an angsty, addictive new contemporary romance duet about two star-crossed musicians. From dark tour bus bunk beds to blinding stadium lights, follow Ryder, Felicity, and the whole Wildwood crew as they set the world on fire… one arena at a time. Download or read book Boom Country written by Alan Rosling and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2017-05-20 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Boom Country?, Alan Rosling, entrepreneur and strategic advisor in India for over 35 years, explores an unmistakable and profound change that is underway in the Indian business landscape. A fresh wave of enterprise and start-ups; rapid advancements in technology; government reform; and recently developed pools of risk capital, he holds, are contributing increasingly to a massive expansion in new business – all of it underpinned by a deep social change, a willingness to ‘do things differently’, especially among the young. Drawing upon his own experiences and more than 100 interviews with Indian entrepreneurs – representing traditional leading business houses (Tata, Mahindra and Godrej), established first-generation entrepreneurs (Sunil Mittal, Kishore Biyani and Narayana Murthy, among others) and new-generation start-ups (including Sachin Bansal, Bhavish Aggarwal and Vijay Shekhar Sharma) – as well as forces of the government, Rosling provides an incisive and in-depth analysis of the opportunities and challenges, both traditional and contemporary, of doing business in India. Yet, the growing uncertainty of global trends and India’s own record of under-performing despite its massive potential, lead him to one vital question: Can the current upsurge in entrepreneurial activity – imperfect and early as it may be – really reshape India’s economy and propel it towards becoming a true boom country for new enterprise?

Download or read book The Anthropology of Friendship written by Sandra Bell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-08-21 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Friendship is usually seen as a vital part of most people's lives in the West. From our friends, we hope to derive emotional support, advice and material help in times of need. In this pioneering book, basic assumptions about friendship are examined from a cross-cultural point of view. Is friendship only a western conception or is it possible to identify friends in such places as Papua New Guinea, Kenya, China, and Brazil? In seeking to answer this question, contributors also explore what friendship means closer to home, from the bar to the office, and address the following:* Are friendships voluntary?* Should friends be distinguished sharply from relatives?* Do work and friendship mix?* Does friendship support or subvert the social order?* How is friendship shaped by the nature of the person, gender, and the relationship between private and public life?* How is friendship affected when morality is compromised by self-interest?This book represents one of the few major attempts to deal with friendship from a comparative perspective. In achieving this aim, it demonstrates the culture-bound nature of many assumptions concerning one of the most basic building-blocks of western social relationships. More importantly, it signposts the future of social relations in many parts of the world, where older social bonds based on kinship or proximity are being challenged by flexible ties forged when people move within local, national and increasingly global networks of social relations.

It was destiny that kindled their friendship from school to the active days of engineering. Their paths separate when they plan for their Master’s. They drift apart until finally, they’re just another contact name on their phonebook. Fortunately, destiny paves the way for them to meet again through Varsha and Megha—two sisters who enter their lives and love begins to blossom. But who loves whom? Who will sacrifice for whom? Will there be a happy ending? Will their Friendship Last Forever? Join their journey and take a walk down the memory lane!

Download or read book Boys Girls and Achievement written by Becky Francis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-01-04 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Girls are now out-performing boys at GCSE level, giving rise to a debate in the media on boys' underachievement. However, often such work has been a 'knee-jerk' response, led by media, not based on solid research. Boys, Girls and Achievement - Addressing the Classroom Issues fills that gap and: *provides a critical overview of the current debate on achievement; *Focuses on interviews with young people and classroom observations to examine how boys and girls see themselves as learners; *analyses the strategies teachers can use to improve the educational achievements of both boys and girls. Becky Francis provides teachers with a thorough analysis of the various ways in which secondary school pupils construct their gender identities in the classroom. The book also discusses methods teachers might use challenge these gender constructions in the classroom and thereby address the 'gender-gap' in achievement.

Download or read book Passionate Friendship written by Deborah M. Shamoon and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2012-03-13 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shojo manga are romance comics for teenage girls. Characterized by a very dense visual style, featuring flowery backgrounds and big-eyed, androgynous boys and girls, it is an extremely popular and prominent genre in Japan. Why is this genre so appealing? Where did it come from? Why do so many of the stories feature androgynous characters and homosexual romance? Passionate Friendship answers these questions by reviewing Japanese girls’ print culture from its origins in 1920s and 1930s girls’ literary magazines to the 1970s “revolution” shojo manga, when young women artists took over the genre. It looks at the narrative and aesthetic features of girls’ literature and illustration across the twentieth century, both pre- and postwar, and discusses how these texts addressed and formed a reading community of girls, even as they were informed by competing political and social ideologies. The author traces the development of girls’ culture in pre–World War II magazines and links it to postwar teenage girls’ comics and popular culture. Within this culture, as private and cloistered as the schools most readers attended, a discourse of girlhood arose that avoided heterosexual romance in favor of “S relationships,” passionate friendships between girls. This preference for homogeneity is echoed in the postwar genre of boys’ love manga written for girls. Both prewar S relationships and postwar boys’ love stories gave girls a protected space to develop and explore their identities and sexuality apart from the pressures of a patriarchal society. Shojo manga offered to a reading community of girls a place to share the difficulties of adolescence as well as an alternative to the image of girls purveyed by the media to boys and men. Passionate Friendship’s close literary and visual analysis of modern Japanese girls’ culture will appeal to a wide range of readers, including scholars and students of Japanese studies, gender studies, and popular culture.
