Download or read book All The Queen s Corgis written by Penny Junor and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2018-11-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'It is actually a serious book, but it had me laughing out loud several times on the Tube. All mothers should receive one for Christmas.' Marcus Berkmann, Spectator Everyone who loves The Crown on Netflix will enjoy this celebration of Queen Elizabeth II and her beloved canine friends. The Queen has had corgis by her side ever since she was seven years old and persuaded her father to buy one for the family. She also has several dorgis (a cross resulting from an accidental liaison between one of the Queen's corgis and Princess Margaret's dachshund) and is a passionate breeder of gundogs. The dogs are the Queen's constant companions, travelling with her by air, road and rail, from one royal residence to another. She walks and feeds them herself, chooses names for them, and at the end of their days, buries them with personalised plaques to commemorate each individual. Penny Junor reveals the scraps and scrapes that the dogs have been involved in - the hierarchy amongst them, the corgis' feisty attitude to footmen and guests, gardeners and innocent passersby. This fascinating and affectionate look at the Queen and her most faithful companions is a book for dog lovers everywhere about what really makes our much-loved and longest reigning monarch truly light up.

Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author Jane Feather conspires with history to tell this dazzling story about two very real, very wily queens - and one impassioned young woman whose life they change forever. At Queen Elizabeth's palace, intrigue abounds. And when a naive girl with a gift for keen observation enters the court, she can hardly imagine the role she will play in bringing England - indeed, the whole of Europe - to the brink of war. Nor can she foresee her own journey to the brink of ecstasy and beyond... When she becomes a junior lady of Queen Elizabeth's bedchamber, Rosamund is instructed by her cousin, the brilliant and devious secretary of state Sir Francis Walsingham, to record everything she observes. Her promised reward: a chance at a good marriage. And then Rosamund meets Will Creighton - a persuasive courtier, poet, and would-be playwright who is the embodiment of an unsuitable match. The unsanctioned relationship draws the wrath of Elizabeth, and Rosamund is sent in disgrace to a remote castle that holds Elizabeth's cousin Mary Stuart, the imprisoned Queen of Scots. Here, Walsingham expects Rosamund to uncover proof of a plot against Elizabeth. But surely, nothing good can come of putting an artless girl in such close proximity to so many seductive players and deceptive games. Unless, of course, Rosamund can discover an affinity for passion and intrigue herself... For more of Jane Feather's signature romance check out the Blackwater Brides Trilogy - where three dashing brothers embark on a most im-proper quest - or follow the adventures to three intrepid young ladies as they become embroiled in the political intrigue of Regency-era London and fall irreversibly in love in the Cavendish Square Trilogy.

"All the Queen's Horses and All the Queen's Men" reveals how billionaire plutocrats have destroyed democracy by dumbing down the public so that policy is no longer determined by a well-informed, rational, objective public but rather by billionaire plutocrats who control politicians, judges, and education. In "All the Queen's Horses and All the Queen's Men," billionaire plutocrat Rolf Lambert coaches his granddaughter, Berkeley, on the importance of maintaining the illusion of egalitarianism to disguise plutocracy. Rolf Lambert admonishes Berkeley to accept loyalty over excellence. Berkeley argues back about the danger under which her loyal, but incompetent trainer places her, but to no avail. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author emphasizes the role of individuals and yet makes it quite evident that by the time of her centenary in the early days of World War II, Queen's had developed an organic vitality through which the vicissitudes occasioned by external fortunes or by internal tensions could be transcended. Throughout the period covered by this volume Queen's faced a long, hard struggle for adequate resources for research in terms of space, equipment, and most importanly, faculty time; the gradual development of graduate work; and the building of library resources. There was firm and creative leadership through the crises of the war and its aftermath and a renewal of optimism through the final decades of this history.

Download or read book DOT AND TOT OF MERRYLAND A Children s Adventure in 7 Magical Valleys written by L Frank Baum and published by Abela Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2020-03-08 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dot and Tot of Merryland is a 1901 novel by L. Frank Baum, who also wrote The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He wrote this story about the adventures of a little girl named Dot and a little boy named Tot in Merryland which is reached by a river which flowed through a tunnel. Merryland is split into seven valleys. The book was illustrated by artist W. W. Denslow, who had illustrated three previous Baum books. Evangeline "Dot" Freeland is sent to her rich father's country estate Roselawn for her health. She soon meets the gardener's son "Tot" Thompson, who becomes her friend and playmate. One day, they have a picnic and sit in a boat they find by the river, which gets away and takes them to a passage in a cliff face that brings them to the magical country of Merryland. Merryland is made of seven valleys, arranged in a circular pattern connected by a river running through them. The first valley is populated by clowns, the second is a land in which everything—including the people—is entirely made of candy, and the third the valley where babies grow from blossoms before storks deliver them to their parents. The fourth valley is populated by living dolls and is also the home of the Queen of Merryland, a large wax doll who makes Dot and Tot her adopted children. After Dot and Tot have a day of running the valley by themselves, the queen joins Dot and Tot to see the remaining three valleys. The fifth valley is populated entirely by cats, the sixth valley is run by Mr. Split, who makes wind up animals. The final valley is the Valley of Lost Things, where every lost item goes. Tot finds a doll he'd lost and is allowed to take it with him. The Queen decides to allow Dot and Tot to travel onward, which will take them back to Roselawn, but she will close the way to Merryland forever. Returning to the river, Dot is found by her father who notices that she no longer looks sickly. Tot deduces that the Queen of Merryland—who was either interrupted or forgot to answer when asked her name—must be named "Dolly."
