Book excerpt: Five-hundred years ago, sorcery began to fade from the world. As technology prevailed, combustion engines and computers replaced enchanted plows and spell books. Real magicians were hunted almost to extinction. Science became the primary system of belief, and the secrets of spell-casting were forgotten. That is ... until now. Sorcery for Beginners is no fantasy or fairy tale. Written by arcane arts preservationist and elite mage Euphemia Whitmore (along with her ordinary civilian aide Matt Harry), this book is a how-to manual for returning magic to an uninspired world. It's also the story of Owen Macready, a seemingly average 13-year-old who finds himself drawn into a centuries-long war when he uses sorcery to take on a school bully. Owen's spell casting attracts the attention of a ruthless millionaire and a secret society of anti-magic mercenaries, all of whom wish to use Sorcery for Beginners to alter the course of world history forever.

But when another team of teenage sorcerers suddenly vanishes, the spell casters set out for Germany, Egypt, and the Seychelles to uncover why the Euclideans have been abducting and experimenting on magical creatures like the unicorn and the sphinx. Download or read book Dobu written by Susanne Kuehling and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2021-09-30 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an ethnography of Dobu, a Massim society of Papua New Guinea, which has been renowned in social anthropology since Reo Fortune's Sorcerers of Dobu (1932). Focusing on exchange and its underlying ethics, this book explores the concept of the person in the Dobu world view. The book examines major aspects of exchange such as labor, mutual support, apologetic gifts, revenge and punishment, kula exchange, and mortuary gifts. It discusses in detail the characteristics of small gifts (such as betel nuts), big gifts (kula valuables, pigs, and large yams) and money as they appear in exchange contexts. The ethnography begins with an analysis of the construct of the Dobu person, and sets out to examine everyday practices and values. The belief system (incorporating witches, sorcerers, and a Christian God) is shown to have a powerful influence on individual conduct due to its panoptic character. The institutions that link Dobu with the outside world are examined in terms of the ideology concerning money: the Church receives offerings for God; the difficulties faced by trade-store owners evince conflicting notions concerning monetary wealth. The last two chapters delve into lived experience in two major domains of Dobu exchange: kula and the sagali feast.

Download or read book A Sorcerer s Apprentice written by John Herlosky and published by Trine Day. This book was released on 2015-04-01 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Follow the fascinating story of one man's journey into the realm of the fantastic: the CIA-sponsored psychic spies with the ability to extend their consciousness to accurately describe targets not only half a world away but to look into the future as well. It all sounded like science fiction to John Herlosky after reading an expose by former member of the CIA's Project Stargate, Dr. David Morehouse. Two years later, skeptical but intrigued by the possibilities implied, John entered the classroom of Dr. Morehouse to find out the truth—and never looked back. Sorcerer's Apprentice is an autobiographical account of the author's experience learning the CIA-sponsored scientifically validated form of extrasensory perception called "remote viewing." The book chronicles the author's journey from interested skeptic to operational remote viewer working his first mission as well as his former life as a police officer and private military contractor. He takes you on a journey from the crushing depths and pathos of the wreck of the Titanic to the fate of a downed pilot missing for 19 years from the first Gulf War. Witness the personal turmoil as the author's long-held beliefs clash with the powerful implications of his experiences.

Download or read book Principles of Counseling and Psychotherapy written by Gerald J. Mozdzierz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-03-24 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents a novel approach to teaching and learning the fundamental skills and techniques of counseling and psychotherapy, based on a "non-linear" process of thinking that more accurately reflects the reality of mental health practice. At the core of this text lies the idea that to best prepare students for practice with real clients, they have to learn how to think in a new way, the way that research has shown the most effective practitioners think. The result is a paradigm shift in how to teach and learn basic counseling skills, which separates this text from the competition and brings training up to speed with current practice.

Download or read book The Science of Sorcery Beginner Course written by Sorceress Cagliastro and published by . This book was released on 2015-10-27 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE SCIENCE OF SORCERY BEGINNER COURSEVOLUME 1, BLOOD SORCERY AND DIRECTIONAL SORCERY TRANSCRIPTS, 2 months of classes (see below for release dates of the other two volumes). This book can be used by the solo student or can be used in conjunction with classes....This book can be used as a manual for students who have a desire and requirement to study the Science of Sorcery in the Iron Ring methods as written and taught by THE SORCERESS CAGLIASTRO. It is also quite useful for students who have, or are taking classes with The Sorceress. The Beginner Classes meet once weekly and are useful to those who have decided to explore this manner of work. A second option is available. LEARN AS YOU LISTEN is now an option. Students receive one recorded class per week to listen for a prescribed period of time. This book can be utilized as a compendium to that option as well. To teach The Science of Sorcery one must remember that although it is important to stay on topic, there will be overlaps and the work will have to be linked to other aspects of itself while communicating. It is because of this conundrum that I waited many years to teach. Once I came to the very freeing revelation that one must ALLOW for this overlapping, then teaching became possible. To learn this work, as students, you must also realize this. I repeat this exact paragraph later in the work, where these comments, as a reminder, will be helpful to the student.....This book is a Compendium to the BEGINNER COURSE in the IRON RING method of the SCIENCE OF SORCERY. There will be three volumes in this compendium. Volume 2 will contain The Static Practice and the Iron Ring (tentative release date by January 30, 2016)Volume 3 will touch on The Boxes and cover Daemons and the Disincarnate with a short addition covering thoughts on Divination (tentative release date by April 30, 2016)This is not a novel. This is not a structured text book - it is much more useful than such a thing as it is a set of transcripts from 2 months of live-feed classes during which I have the opportunity to share the information with the vigor of Collective Consciousness with students who have a desire and a requirement to gather and utilize the information. Great learning tools come from this sort of energy. Students who study with me have an opportunity to ask questions at the end of each class. I have included here one question asked during a class for each section....students gain tremendously by utilizing the opportunity to ask questions after class..For additional information visit regarding classes http://www.cagliastrotheironring.com then click on the CLASS INFO pageHOW TO USE THIS BOOKThis book is a compilation of transcripts from the Beginner Course. It is useful as both a compendium to studying in that particular class structure - however it is extraordinarily useful when studying alone. The transcripts allow for the flow of information to be absorbed at the desired pace of the student. The format is welcoming, and includes anecdotal information which is most useful at this point in one's study. I write these books with larger than average print and plenty of space as the reader is most likely a person who is experiencing revelations and has a requirement to utilize power to their own advantage. That type of person may have an urge to write immediately on this book - scribble notes in the side margins. I formatted this book for that type of student...It is not heavily edited. It is a transcript - moments of passionate teaching - and it is meant to deliver that message to the reader....
