Download or read book Invitation to Biblical Interpretation 2nd ed written by Andreas Köstenberger and published by Kregel Publications. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authoritative guide to accurately interpreting and applying God's Word In this second edition of Invitation to Biblical Interpretation, Andreas Kostenberger leads the reader step-by-step through the process of interpreting and applying God's Word. The primary principle is the hermeneutical triad, which consists of history, literature, and theology. Readers are equipped to explore the historical background of a biblical passage, analyze its literary genre and features, and derive its theological meaning in light of the biblical canon. Numerous examples are provided throughout to illustrate the concepts. A concluding chapter provides direction on practical application, preaching, and helpful tools for Bible study. Additional features include key words and definitions at the end of each chapter, study questions, and practical exercises for applying the material. An appendix lists numerous resources for Bible study, including recommended commentaries for every book of the Bible. The second edition updates these resources, as well as the sources cited throughout, and includes a revised chapter on the Old Testament canon. Instructors, students, pastors, and anyone who desires to interpret Scripture accurately will find this volume to be an indispensable addition to their library.
Download or read book The Uses of the Old Testament in the New written by Walter C. Kaiser and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2001-12-03 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The debate over whether New Testament writers were entirely accurate in their quoting from the Old Testament has raged since before the turn of the century. This fundamental question has been one starting point in thought for both redaction and canon criticism. A majority of contemporary scholars have even agreed that New Testament writers (and readers) permissively interpreted the Old Testament text. Author Walter Kaiser, Jr., elucidates how this state of doctrinal affairs came about. He references the Old Testament text for accurate exegesis and content to answer the one question symbolizing the entire work: ÒHave the New Testament writers fairly cited the Old Testament quotations according to their real truth-intention and original writer's meaning in their attempt to show that the Messiah and many of the events in the first century A.D. church had indeed been anticipated by the O.T. writers?Ó The apostles preached and wrote while utterly convinced that Old Testament writing had anticipated the marvelous events they proclaimed. Did they give meaning to meaningless Old Testament texts? Did they squeeze fulfilled prophecy out of a dry passage? These are the central questions answered in this work.

Download or read book Fashioning Jewish Identity in Medieval Western Christendom written by Robert Chazan and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-11-27 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the course of the twelfth century, increasing numbers of Jews migrated into dynamically developing western Christendom from Islamic lands. The vitality that attracted them also presented a challenge: Christianity - from early in its history - had proclaimed itself heir to a failed Jewish community and thus the vitality of western Christendom was both appealing and threatening to the Jewish immigrants. Indeed, western Christendom was entering a phase of intense missionising activity, some of which was directed at the long-term Jewish residents of Europe and the Jewish newcomers. This 2003 study examines the techniques of persuasion adopted by the Jewish polemicists in order to reassure their Jewish readers of the truth of Judaism and the error of Christianity. At the very deepest level, these Jewish authors sketched out for their fellow Jews a comparative portrait of Christian and Jewish societies - the former powerful but irrational and morally debased, the latter the weak but reasonable and morally elevated - urging that the obvious and sensible choice was Judaism.

Download or read book How to Find America and Germany in the Bible written by Hugh Stewart and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States of America and Germany have “a rendezvous with destiny,” to quote President Franklin D. Roosevelt. It is a rendezvous that will be devastating for America, yet neither will it bode well for Germany or the rest of the world. The lumbering European Project of 27 nations known as the European Union (EU) eventually will dwindle to ten willing nations (or ten regional groups of nations) federally united under the leadership of Germany. At last, the long-cherished dream of many Europeans for a resurgent and dominant Europe on the world stage will become a reality. With shades of Christendom from the Middle Ages, and free of Anglo-Saxon trappings and the moderating influence of the UK, the new EU will be an economic and military powerhouse that will serve as a counter balance to the once mighty U.S.A. and the growing China threat from the East. The Anglo-Saxon dream of a reinvigorated Anglosphere as an alternative to the EU will prove to be an illusion. Europe will enjoy a few years of unprecedented prosperity before the Project comes to a crashing halt. How to Find America and Germany In the Bible explains why these events will take place. It also tells us that the Israelite nations of Bible fame are alive and well under their modern names and that their day of awakening is near.
