Book excerpt: The award-winning author of Mud “weave[s] magic, mythology, fantasy, and raw emotion into an explosive bundle” (Readers Lane). Rona didn’t ask to be brought back from the Underworld, and now that she lives again, she’s angry enough to raise hell. It’s a good thing too, because hell is coming for her. As the realm braces for another battle between the Gods and the demigods, Rona’s fate is entangled with the unlikely heroes responsible for bringing her back: a golem marked by the Gods and a man with the touch of luck upon him. As this questionable duo faces the unknown to save the world from destruction, Rona will be damned if they’re going to stop her from joining the adventure. Together, they embark on a quest to end the war before it begins. For if they cannot prevent the chaos of the demigods, the middle realm of Terath will be torn apart. Will this band of misfits overcome the odds? Only destiny knows. But if Rona cannot defeat her haunted past, then a mystical war may be the least of her worries. “Even if I knew how the story ended when I picked it up to read, even if I knew every action and reaction that takes place in Tides, I would still read it for the beauty in E.J.’s writing.” —B. Hughes-Millman, author of Purgatory’s Angel

Book excerpt: “Wenstrom’s debut is the catalyst for a planned series of fantasy war tales, kicked off with this thoroughly expanded retelling of the Orpheus myth.” —Publishers Weekly Winner of the Royal Palm Literary Award for Book of the Year and First Place for Fantasy Torn apart by war and abandoned by the gods, only one hope remains to save humanity. But the savior isn’t human at all. Trapped by his maker’s dark command to protect a mysterious box, Adem—an unlikely hero—is forced to kill anyone who tries to steal it. When a young boy chances upon Adem’s temple, he resists the lure of curiosity and temptation, intriguing the golem. The boy and his sister convince Adem to go against his maker’s edict, leaving the refuge of the temple. But their adventure soon lands them in a web of trouble. Now Adem will do whatever is necessary to keep his new young charges safe, even if it means giving up the only thing he’s ever truly wanted . . . a chance at a soul of his own. “There’s something primal in Mud. It’s a reverent, mythical story of supernatural beings who justify desperate measures in their quest to feel complete. They struggle with emotions we all understand, even as they challenge the very rules that govern all of creation.” —Robert Wiesehan, author of Aurora Knights: Loyalties “I really like books about uncommon supernatural creatures, so, when I saw Mud had a golem as the protagonist, I jumped at the chance to read it. A well-written and enjoyable read.” —Metaphors and Moonlight

Book excerpt: This prequel novella to Mud by the award-winning author “combin[es] the lush charms of fantasy with the highs and lows of a tragic love story” (Readers Lane). In the beginning, everything was perfect, but something in the middle realm of Terath has gone terribly wrong. After Nia’s father dies from a mysterious illness that even the gods’ First Creatures cannot stop, she grows in isolation amidst the fear and suspicion from her village. So, when an impulsive moment leads to a passionate romance with an angel, Nia will stop at nothing to keep them together, even defy direct orders from the gods themselves. Meanwhile, the middle realm of Terath begins to show cracks. Both First Creatures and men grow angrier at the gods’ disinterest, and everything the gods put in order begins to unravel. When Nia’s angel steals magic from one of the gods to enchant her parting gift, it causes a rift that triggers a downward spiral. This novella is a Chronicles of the Third Realm War prequel. “Full of characters and plot that will keep you turning the page, and wanting more long after the story is finished. Five stars.” —Em Shotwell, author of Blackbird Summer

Book excerpt: The author of Tides delivers “fierce battles and passionate personal struggles . . . a rewarding escape into a very creative and fully imagined world” (HillRag). Being Chosen by the Gods doesn’t mean much when They have abandoned you. Jordan was raised to save his people from the coming war. All his life he has trained to eliminate the rebel army of demigods and demons foretold to turn the middle realm of Terath to dust. Now, the final battle has arrived. But everything that made Jordan special is stripped away—his prophetic ability to hear the Gods, his leadership over his people, and even his faith. As the rebels send a new threat—the most powerful wizard of all the ages—to destroy Jordan and the people of Haven, he has never felt more lost. So, when the golem who served as Jordan’s only friend and childhood protector disappears, Jordan ventures to solve at least one problem in his dark, broken world, even if it means breaking into the Gods’ home and hunting Them down. No matter the cost, he’ll bring back a soul for his friend . . . or die trying. “The finale delivers on everything the series has been building up to. It is dramatic, oddly sad, and gloriously beautiful . . . I do hope for more prequels, more sequels, more chances to adventure in this vibrant world and walk with these characters, who after this powerful journey, have become closer than family.” —Readers Lane “With each book, Wenstrom gives us more and more depth to her world and characters.” —Danielle DeVor, author of The Marker Chronicles

This book was released on 2022-01-19 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume offers a timely (re-)appraisal of Seleukid cultural dynamics. While the engagement of Seleukid kings with local populations and the issue of “Hellenization” are still debated, a movement away from the Greco-centric approach to the study of the sources has gained pace. Increasingly textual sources are read alongside archaeological and numismatic evidence, and relevant near-eastern records are consulted. Our study of Seleukid kingship adheres to two game-changing principles: 1. We are not interested in judging the Seleukids as “strong” or “weak” whether in their interactions with other Hellenistic kingdoms or with the populations they ruled. 2. While appreciating the value of the social imaginaries approach (Stavrianopoulou, 2013), we argue that the use of ethnic identity in antiquity remains problematic. Through a pluralistic approach, in line with the complex cultural considerations that informed Seleukid royal agendas, we examine the concept of kingship and its gender aspects; tensions between centre and periphery; the level of “acculturation” intended and achieved under the Seleukids; the Seleukid-Ptolemaic interrelations. As rulers of a multi-cultural empire, the Seleukids were deeply aware of cultural politics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An erotic, fantasy adventure, this is a romantic tale of magic, emotion, and human motivation that does not turn a blind eye to the frank sexuality of its characters. Within these pages live witches, shapechangers, demons, and immortal beings. Turn the page and let them unveil their dark story in the ambiance of medieval France. This is a collection of the first three volumes-- Volume 1, The Path Melisse dreams of another life, one in which she is no longer the servant to a noble family, one where she can find her own destiny and make her life her own. On the eve of the arrival of the Marechal de Barristide, an eldritch light in the forest calls out to her, giving her the hope of change to come. The Marechal, a man marked with a vicious scar, is a man of the law of the realm, charged with investigating a series of horrible crimes to the south. However, he has his own reasons for visiting House Perene. Reasons that drive him to search mercilessly for the truth, no matter the cost. His search and the fate of Melisse intertwine to form a tapestry of lust, violence, and supernatural implications. All of which resound within a potent and robust story that draws the reader in and does not let go. Volume 2, The Hunter The sun rises upon the blood soaked House Perene. Evil has struck within and without and only the Marechal de Barristide can untangle the threads of fate that wind about him in a web of intrigue and passion. His way is branded into the very ground before him, but the Marechal must turn his course in order to seek aid from a dreaded soul. Beings from a realm other than earth shall seek his alliance while his quarry, the servant woman, Melisse, has disappeared, leaving only ash and dust behind her. But before taking up her trail once more, the Marechal must submit to another's infernal desires and pay far more than he bargained for. Here continues The Marechal Chronicles, an erotic tale of desire and merciless destruction as the players assemble themselves to pirouette in an intricate clockwork of unflinching sexuality and supernatural forces. Volume 3, The Prey The paths of the Marechal de Barristide and Melisse, runaway servant accused of a grisly murder, narrow to convergence in a seamy quarter of Licharre, a city bordering the Ardoise mountains to the south. Lust and desire burn all that lies between them as demons rear their ugly heads, twisting their destinies together while powers beyond those of mankind exact their vile desires. Blood will run before it is over and doom shall fall where it will in this continuing story of supernatural passion and erotic romance. This edition includes the prequel story, The Goblin Between Her Thighs.

Book excerpt: The Rig Veda, the earliest sacred text of the ancient Indo-Europeans, includes dozens of hymns in praise of this psychedelic plant which, when drunk, takes its subjects to the realm of the gods. But, in the later Hindu tradition, soma is declared to have been lost, and its use abandoned. The botanical identity of soma remains one of the great unsolved mysteries of the ancient world. Blue Tide tells the story of the search for soma, and uses a diverse range of approachestravel and ethnography, science and narrative history, detective story and first-person drug experiencesto examine the question of its nature and identity. The search takes the author from drug rituals in Brazilian churches to the high Indus Valley in the Himalayas. In doing so, it sheds light not just on the identity of soma but on the broader mystery of the original relationship between psychedelic drugs and religion. Both claim to offer the key to experiencing the divine, and their histories are characterized by struggle and conflict.
